Glen Hayward, Sign Field, 4-26 April 2014
Glen Hayward's hand-carved, hand-painted wooden sculptures mimic everyday objects, questioning issues around the boundaries between what is the real and what is illusionary, between virtual experience and physical experience. ‘Sign Field’ is a semi survey installation of selected works from 2005 to present which extends Hayward’s concern not merely with mimicking real objects but with questions of how these objects can operate in or on the world they originally sprung from. Sometimes Hayward intervenes into specific sites like historic houses, where he replicates furnishings and fixings. On other occasions he stages elaborate setups that make a site for the work to inhabit. Hayward was born in 1974 in New Zealand. He currently lives and works in Northland.
