PAULNACHE STAND A05
The 90 booths of SCAF [Sydney Contemporary Art Fair] form a system of interconnected vertical and horizontal lines and planes, in short, a SCAFƒold, supporting works of art of all dimensions. This architectural matrix is one of the most fundamental of all human constructs, and all works of art must, at some level, respond to it.
PAULNACHE’s response is in a variety of forms, even including negation and collapse, real and metaphorical.
It occurs via repressed humanity in Glen Hayward’s work, whilst Peter Adsett’s abstract medium levels a low blow to assumptions about what constitutes painting, Matthew Couper engages in over-stimulated narrative of his context, and Sanjay Theodore fuzzes the architectural graffiti of blue tarp with the politics of the art world, using cast off materials to shout out loud "I live here too!”.
