Hard Sell Future
Originally from Nelson, JK Russ graduated from Auckland’s MIT Faculty of Creative Arts in 2001. Working predominantly with the medium of collage, she creates fantasy environments where hybrid humans merge with plants, birds, and other creatures. The impact of humans on the environment is evident in her recent work.
Based in Las Vegas, NV since 2010, Russ has developed large-scale collage installations where visitors contribute to the completed work. As a residency artist with Art Production Fund, she worked with visitors to P3Studio at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas to build up a reverse-glass collage where bird women dominated a desert landscape.
Russ worked with the City of Las Vegas to create a large-scale collage from contributions of cards and notes for the touring Hearts4Vegas installation. Represented by PAULNACHE, her collage work has been shown at the Dowse Art Museum in Lower Hutt, the Sarjeant Gallery in Whanganui, the Nevada Museum of Art in Reno, NV, the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art in Las Vegas, NV and the Torrance Art Museum in California. ‘Hard Sell Future’ has been selected to feature in a major installation of her work at Tauranga Art Gallery scheduled for August 2020.
JK Russ is represented in New Zealand by PAULNACHE.
